The Siberian cat is thought to have originated 1000 years ago in Russia and was recently introduced to the USA in the early 1990's. Siberians are considered the largest domestic feline because of it's large and dense bone structure.Simular to a Maine Coon Cat.  Its coat is simi-long haired to long hair and comes in many colors and color patterns. The dander produced by these cat's (FEL D1) is measurably less than that produced by most domestic cats and is considered to be hypo-allergenic. Far more people with cat allergies can tolerate the Siberian cat quite well. Siberians are also known to be  dog-like. They are more dependent on human interaction and tend to bond closer than other feline breeds. This also creates a situation that provides for easier training. Siberians are powerful cats, but rarely injure their human friends, even in play. They purr very loudly and love to head butt their favorite humans. They are not very vocal but quickly establish communications through body language. Because of the obvious reasons above and many amazing others, the Siberian cat and kitten are rapidly becomming the pet of choice for many families.

Known to be an exceptionally agile jumper, the Siberian is a strong and powerfully built cat, with strong hindquarters and large, well rounded paws. They have barreled chests and medium sized ears, broad foreheads, and stockier builds than other cats. They also have a slight arch to their body.

Siberians express the three natural types of feline fur: guard hairsm awn hairs, and down. These three layers protect the cat from the Russian weather extremes, and provide a hardy, easy to care for coat today. The fur is textured but glossy, which decreases the occurrence of matting. A twice weekly combing is enough to keep the coat in good condition.

As with most other cat breeds, color varieties of the Siberian vary and all colors, such as tabby, solid tortoiseshell and colorpoint are genetically possible. The Siberian cat breed does not have any unusual, distinct, or unique fur colorations or patterns.

Most breeders, enthusiasts, organizations, main registries such as TICA and the WCF, and countries accept the color point coloration as being natural. Color point Siberians are also known as "Neva-Masquerade":Nava for the river where they are said to have originated, and masquerade, for the mask-like coloration.

Siberian cats moult once or twice a year. The first moult is at the end of winter. The winter moult is instigated not by a change in temperature but by a change in day length. Many Siberians will experience a less intense "mini moult" at the end of the summer season. I have noticed with my cats that there is very little cat hair around, unlike other breads of cats where you find hair everywhere.

                                      OUR PERSONAL STORY
We wanted a cat so bad but my son has athma and allergic to all animals and would have really bad reactions to them. I spent allot of time reserching for a hypo-allergenic cat (if possible) We already had a hypo-allergenic dog and Seth didn't respond negitivly with her so there had to be a cat out there somewhere. I discovered this breed but wasn't very hopeful that it would work out. We bought a 9mo old male and to our delight we had no reactions at all. So we decided to get a female and breed her so we could pass on to our family and friends our great find. We love these cats so much we just reciently adopted another female. Our wish to you is to find a loving member of your family and not suffer any allergic reactions.
